Gillingham defender Shad Ogie needs to deliver more consistent performances, according to Gills manager Mark Bonner. Ogie impressed during the goalless draw against Fleetwood Town in League 2 on Saturday.
The 23-year-old former Leyton Orient defender, who celebrated his birthday with a solid display alongside captain Max Ehmer, has been encouraged by Bonner to maintain this level of performance consistently, especially with Conor Masterson still sidelined due to injury.
Reflecting on Ogie’s performance, Bonner stated, “We’ve been waiting for this. It’s a much better and more consistent level. Consistency is key. Players who perform well sporadically don’t progress in their careers or win games. We need to become a team that operates at a high level every day and continually strives to improve.”
Bonner emphasized the importance of consistency in sustaining and improving results, moving beyond just grinding out matches to becoming more dominant on the field. He also praised goalkeeper Jake Turner, who secured consecutive clean sheets at Fleetwood, noting Turner’s growing confidence and positive impact on the defense. Bonner added, “Jake has started the season brilliantly, relieving pressure on the back four, and I’m really pleased with his performance.”
