Specialist officers and a police helicopter were dispatched to Glasgow’s West End on Wednesday afternoon (August 14) as part of an ongoing operation.
Police initially responded to Kelso Street around 2 p.m. and later moved to Hawick Street in Knightswood and Glasgow Road in Clydebank around 5 p.m.
Images captured by the Glasgow Times show multiple armed police officers and units blocking off Hawick Street shortly before 5 p.m.
In dramatic scenes, armed officers, alongside plain-clothed personnel, were seen at a property on the street. An armed officer was observed on a first-floor balcony, while others were positioned on the street below. Subsequently, several plain-clothed officers entered the property.
After their presence was noted, the armed officers departed the scene shortly after 5 p.m., although other officers remained in the area.
Police have stated that no arrests have been made in connection with the investigation and have assured the public that there is no wider risk. The details of the investigation remain undisclosed.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland commented, “On the afternoon of Wednesday, August 14, 2024, specialist officers and the police helicopter were deployed in the west of Glasgow as part of an ongoing investigation. Officers were present in Kelso Street around 2 p.m. and later in Hawick Street, Knightswood, and Glasgow Road, Clydebank, around 5 p.m. No arrests have been made, and inquiries are ongoing. There will be a continued police presence in the area, and there is no risk to the wider public.
