Detectives uncovered a cannabis farm in Grantley Gardens, Shawlands, last night. This morning, officers were seen at the location, removing large Police Scotland bin bags from the property.

Residents expressed concerns to the Glasgow Times, fearing the operation posed a significant fire risk due to the electricity used to maintain it.

One resident described the situation as a “death trap” and expressed relief that the authorities intervened. Another resident, who lives nearby, called the discovery “really scary” and “shameful,” noting the potential danger to closely situated homes. A third resident mentioned the large police presence since last night, stating that a neighbor had reported the farm, leading to an influx of police cars.

A fourth resident echoed concerns about the fire risk, particularly given the proximity of tenement buildings, and expressed satisfaction that the police were handling the situation.

Previously, it was reported that Police Scotland vans and uniformed officers were stationed on the quiet residential street after receiving a call yesterday afternoon. Investigations are ongoing after a concerned neighbor reported the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “Around 5.40 pm on Monday, 12 August 2024, officers attended a property in Grantley Gardens, Shawlands. A cannabis cultivation has been discovered, and inquiries are ongoing.”
