Folkestone Invicta has confirmed the signing of 20-year-old midfielder Josh Chambers, recently released by Gillingham. Chambers, who had been on the fringes of Gillingham’s first team in recent seasons, was let go this summer after making three senior appearances and completing loan spells at Worthing and Welling United.
Chambers, who previously played for Tottenham’s development team, returned to Gillingham for the 2022/23 season and stayed with the club’s B Team until it was disbanded. He now aims to make an impact in first-team football with Folkestone Invicta in the Isthmian Premier Division, starting with their season opener against Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.
Chambers recently featured for Invicta in a friendly against Tonbridge Angels. Invicta manager Andy Drury expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, stating, “Josh has been on my radar all summer, and it’s great to finalize the deal before Saturday’s game. He has spent the last two years in the National League South, and we’re looking to help him return to that level. His versatility in midfield adds great value to our squad, and we believe he has tremendous potential that we can help him realize here at Folkestone Invicta.”
