Commuters have faced chaos on the London Underground during one of the hottest days of the year.
A meltdown on the Elizabeth Line was caused by the late finishing of some engineering work. As of 3:30pm, the central section of the line had reopened, although delays are likely until 4pm as service recovers.
During the peak morning commute, there was no service between Abbey Wood and Paddington and severe delays between Paddington and Heathrow.
There were minor delays on the rest of the line and TfL has said Elizabeth Line tickets are valid on a number of other public transport options, including buses and the DLR.
Threeother lines also suffered severe delays throughout the morning and the Overground was partially shut. Routes running to and from Edgware Road on the Circle, District and Hammersmith and City Lines suffered delays due to an earlier points service.
A TfL spokesperson said: “We apologise to Elizabeth line customers for the disruption to their journeys this morning. This was caused by a fault with an engineering train overnight. We are working as quickly as possible to restore a normal service.”
