The B2139 in Houghton was closed yesterday evening following a collision between a car and a van around 5:20 p.m.
A 26-year-old woman driving the car was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The 56-year-old driver of the van suffered minor injuries, according to Sussex Police.
Three fire engines from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and extinguished a fire that had broken out in one of the vehicles.
The road has now been reopened.
A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council commented: “The B2139 Turnpike Road in Amberley has been reopened after a serious traffic accident caused a diesel spill and vehicle fire that significantly damaged the road surface on Monday afternoon. We appreciate the patience of road users while our teams made repairs.”
