David Hallatt was socializing with colleagues when an incident tragically led to his fall in front of shocked patrons at The Dolphin and Anchor pub on West Street, Chichester.
The 57-year-old tiler from Sheffield, described by his family as a cherished figure in their lives, passed away outside the Wetherspoon pub despite efforts by emergency responders to save him.
The incident occurred shortly before 11pm on Thursday, June 20, following England’s match against Denmark in the Euro 2024 tournament. An inquest at the coroner’s court in Horsham, overseen by Assistant Coroner Joanne Andrews, revealed Mr. Hallatt sustained fatal blunt force head injuries from the fall.

His family described him as a devoted husband of 25 years and a father to two daughters aged 20 and 22. He was passionate about his work as a tiler, enjoyed playing the electric guitar, and shared interests in football and rock music.
Following the incident, Kieran Egan, 30, of Baldmoor Lake Road, Birmingham, was arrested and remains in custody pending court proceedings scheduled for August. Another individual, a 42-year-old man from County Durham, was released on conditional bail after being arrested on suspicion of affray. A third suspect is still being sought by authorities.
