“Athlete Laura Muir continued her preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by breaking the British women’s 1,500m record at the Diamond League in Paris, while Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine set a new world record.
Muir, representing Scotland, secured third place behind Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, who also set a world record, and Australian Jessica Hull at Stade Sebastien Charlety. Due to preparations for this summer’s Olympics, the Stade de France was unavailable for the event.
British champion Georgia Bell finished fifth in the competitive race.
With only two Diamond League meetings left – in Monaco next week and London in two weeks – athletes from around the world are gearing up for the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
“I knew the world record was within reach after my recent fast run in Kenya. My goal here was to run my race and assess my form ahead of defending my title at the Olympics,” said Kipyegon.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian high jumper Mahuchikh made history alongside Kipyegon by clearing a bar at 2.10m.
“Before the competition, I felt confident about clearing 2.07m and possibly 2.10m,” Mahuchikh commented. “Signing Ukraine into the annals of world athletics feels incredible.”
In other events, pole vaulter Armand Duplantis secured victory in the men’s competition, and Briton Elizabeth Bird took third place in the steeplechase.”
