Eastbourne RNLI Responds to Emergency Call After Spotting Red Flares
On Friday morning, Eastbourne RNLI received a request from Solent Coastguard to launch their rescue operation after red flares were sighted eight miles from Eastbourne.
Upon arrival, lifeboat crews discovered a 21ft motor vessel experiencing machine failure with three individuals aboard. A diving boat that had witnessed the distress flares was also present at the scene.
An Eastbourne RNLI spokesperson stated, “A crew member was transferred from the lifeboat to the distressed vessel to ensure the well-being of all individuals on board and to aid in establishing a towline to prevent the vessel from becoming a navigational hazard.”
After safely securing the vessel under tow, the volunteer crew navigated it into the locks at Sovereign Harbour, where it was handed over to marina staff.
The RNLI emphasized the importance of contacting 999 and requesting coastguard assistance in sea-related emergencies. Additionally, individuals who observe red distress flares are urged to take the same action.Source link
