Police swarmed Valley Gardens in Brighton at 6:40 PM on Thursday to assist security staff following an incident that started inside the Central Park fan zone and spilled onto the street.
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
Security staff swiftly responded to the situation while England fans cheered during the second half of their 1-1 draw against Denmark.
Officers detained a shirtless man outside the fan zone in York Place.
A Sussex Police spokesman said, “Sussex Police officers are patrolling and collaborating with partners, including the Fan Park security team. This is to ensure that everyone attending the events has a safe and enjoyable experience.”
