A group of 15 teenagers got involved in a fracas with Southern rail enforcement officers on the platform at Moulsecoomb station, in Brighton.
But an off-duty officer for the British Transport Police in Kent stepped in to stop the melee after spotting the altercation while looking out of the train window.

He detained one person after an enforcement officer was spat at on Saturday.
The male was arrested for assaulting railway staff when backup arrived.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police in Kent said: “Our officers are never off duty and this was never more evident when one of our officers was travelling through Moulsecoomb.
“At the time there was a group of 15 and the officer was without any kind of PPE but nevertheless got involved.”
