Gordon Ramsay has shared that he’s ‘lucky to be alive’ after being involved in a bike accident in the United States.
The 57-year-old TV chef posted to his social media where he spoke to camera and briefly showed his torso which was heavily bruised.
The incident took place in Connecticut this week and Ramsay took time to thank the “incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, and nurses” at the state’s private Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
He made sure to emphasise that he was “most thankful” for wearing a helmet which saved his life.

In a post on his Instagram, Ramsay wrote in the caption: “Sound ON and plz Swipe through…..with #FathersDay tomorrow I have very important message for all the dads out there…WEAR A HELMET !
“This week I had a really bad accident while riding my bike in Connecticut. I’m doing ok and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato.
“I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Have a great Father’s Day and be safe Gx”.
In the video that accompanied his post he revealed the huge bruise covering his torso that was making him look like a “purple potato”.
He said: “I’m lucky to be standing here. I am in pain, it’s been a brutal week, but I am sort of getting through it.”
Ramsay made sure to get his point across about the importance of wearing a helmet when out on bike rides.
He said: “I don’t care how short the journey is, I don’t care about [the fact] these helmets cost money but they’re crucial.
