The Conservative contender for Keir Starmer’s London constituency has been named, and she is a prominent lawyer.
Mehreen Malik, head of pro bono at City law firm Mayer Brown, has been chosen as the Conservative candidate for Holborn and St Pancras, which is currently held by the Labour leader.
Malik, who specializes in pro bono work, joined Mayer Brown’s London office nearly four years ago. She has led the firm’s pro bono practice in Europe since July 2021.
Before her tenure at Mayer Brown, she served as a senior associate at Clifford Chance, focusing on global capital markets for a decade. She also worked as a pro bono lawyer at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and as an associate at Karanjawala & Co in India.
Outside her legal career, Malik is involved in Conservative Friends of Afghanistan and Conservative Friends of India, and she is a member of the Kensington, Chelsea, and Fulham Conservatives.
Keir Starmer has represented Holborn and St Pancras since 2015, securing nearly 65% of the vote in the 2019 election with over 36,600 votes. As Starmer aims for Prime Minister, Labour is predicted to achieve its largest election victory ever, with projections suggesting they could win up to 422 seats, while the Tories may be reduced to just 140 seats according to YouGov analysis.
Other candidates contesting the Holborn and St Pancras seat include Charlie Clinton for the Liberal Democrats, David Stansell for the Greens, independent Andrew Feinstein, and Dave Roberts for Reform UK.
