Staff at the Murray Bar in East Kilbride were shocked when the 19-year-old came into the venue on Saturday night after a shocking assault which occurred nearby.
Bar supervisor Ashley Degning had just started her shift when she spotted the man slumped over the pub’s back steps, Lanarkshire Live reports.
She said: “He’d came into the pub for help. I came in two minutes behind him about 9pm and he was sitting at the back door with someone holding a t-shirt to his neck and the blood was soaking through the t-shirt.
“I saw the injury – it was nasty, quite a big gash. He looked about 20 years old and was in a bad way when the paramedics arrived.
“He was able to talk for a while and seemed okay, then out of nowhere he just keeled over. A lot of us actually thought he had died.
“We were literally about to put him down on the ground to start compressions when the paramedics arrived.”

999 crews descended on the scene and the pub was told to close while police officers carried out investigations.
Ashley added: “It’s something we’ll not forget in a hurry. You hear stories of people fighting around here but to actually have somebody with their throat slit come in, that’s quite extreme.
“I’ve worked here for eight years and that’s the worst injury I’ve seen come in here.”
Officers are investigating what happened to the man and they are urging anyone who saw the incident to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Jim Williamson said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“If you can help please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3907 of Saturday, June 1, 2024, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
