David Beckham’s esports venture Guild will make its debut in the Tekken fighting game series, marking a significant expansion for the company.
Guild Esports, known for its competitive teams in popular titles like Fortnite and EAFC 24, has signed Awais Liaqat, a Pakistani esports player, on a 12-month contract to represent them in international competitions, including the prestigious Esports World Cup.
Tekken, a renowned fighting game franchise since 1994 and ranked as the third best-selling fighting franchise, has witnessed rapid growth in esports. Guild Esports highlighted the game’s popularity, with the most recent Tekken World Finals amassing 695,000 hours of viewership.
Jasmine Skee, CEO of Guild Esports, expressed excitement about entering Tekken at the right time, particularly with the Esports World Cup approaching and the upcoming release of Tekken 8. The addition of Awais Liaqat reflects Guild’s commitment to recruiting top-tier talent and expanding its presence in diverse gaming genres.
This move follows Guild’s recent entry into the ‘Esports World Cup Club Program,’ focusing on social media engagement and viewership generation. As the first esports business in the UK publicly traded on a stock exchange and co-owned by David Beckham, Guild continues to strategically diversify its gaming portfolio, recently signing Fortnite player ‘Charyy_.’
