The car, a Ford Focus, crashed on the A27 Upper Brighton Road, Worthing, in the early hours of April 27.
Its engine was in the road, causing a significant oil spill.
Police closed the road between the A24 Broadwater Street West, the Grove Lodge Roundabout, and Sompting Road, Lyons Farm retail park.
National Highways confirmed the road was closed at around 5.30am. It reopened at around 10am.
