Cinema-goers were left shocked to find rats “scurrying around” during a screening of the new Amy Winehouse biopic.
Kelsey Hepburn was watching “Back to Black” with a friend in the Odeon at Chatham Dockside when the pair said they spotted a rodent munching on popcorn.
The 25-year-old said they first suspected the vermin were in the theatre when she thought she felt something brush against her leg.
Kelsey told KentOnline: “My friend said she could hear the scurrying noise so she said ‘I’m going to test it’ and she chucked a bit of popcorn up the aisle.
“We literally looked back at the screen and then at the popcorn and it was gone.”
The girls then got a phone flashlight out and got a glimpse of a tail before deciding to move seats shortly after.
Kelsey added: “My mate had her popcorn on the floor and when she picked it up, she was like ‘it could have been in here’.”
The incident occurred during a 5.10pm viewing on Tuesday (April 23) in screen four.
After the movie, the girls informed an Odeon employee who said he would report it back to his manager.
But, Kelsey said: “It kind of looked like he had it all before.”
A spokesperson for Odeon said: “We would like to apologise to our guests at ODEON Chatham.
“The cinema carries out extensive and regular cleaning tasks and we are working with local services to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
The sighting follows a similar incident at the Odeon Luxe in Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre, Maidstone earlier this year.
Rats were pictured gnawing on popcorn and movie-goers said they even found them in cupholders across multiple theatres.
An Odeon spokesperson confirmed they were aware of the issue and were working with the site manager and local services to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
Maidstone council, who are the owners of Lockmeadow centre, said the infestation was not affecting other units in the complex.
