LONDON – Princess Kate, the 42-year-old royal, continues to receive an outpouring of support from around the world as she undergoes treatment for her cancer diagnosis. Recently, St. Michael’s Church of England High School in the U.K. extended their well wishes with thoughtful gifts, which were graciously received by her husband, Prince William.
The school’s gifts included Lego sunflowers, symbolizing happiness, positivity, and strength. “Building things is therapeutic, and sunflowers represent happiness, positivity, and strength,” said Kerry Whitehouse, the school’s senior mental health lead. She also highlighted the significance of sunflower seeds, known to “sow seeds of positivity.”
“We didn’t want to give flowers but something significant to represent the theme of the day,” Kerry added. Alongside the Lego sunflowers, a crocheted starfish was given to Prince William for Princess Kate. “It comes with the story about making a difference to others,” Kerry explained.
Prince William expressed his gratitude for the heartfelt gifts, mentioning that the Lego would be a welcome addition to their home.
Earlier this month, William had been expected to resume his public engagements after the school break for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, the family remained out of the public eye following Kate’s cancer diagnosis announcement at the end of March.
Kate shared her diagnosis and treatment plan through a video message, explaining that despite a successful abdominal surgery in January, subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer. “My medical team advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she said.
She also highlighted the family’s effort to explain the situation to their children in an age-appropriate manner. “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK,” Kate mentioned in her message.
Concluding her statement, Kate emphasized the importance of privacy during this challenging time. The royal family continues to appreciate the overwhelming support and well-wishes from people worldwide as Princess Kate navigates her cancer battle.
