The League 2 play-off schedule has been announced – as Gillingham battle to stay in the hunt.
Half of the division still have a genuine chance of promotion this season with teams finishing fourth to seventh taking part in the play-offs.
The Gills currently sit 10th in the table and need to up their game if they want to be involved.
Gillingham’s regular league campaign is confirmed to finish as scheduled on Saturday, April 27, at home to Doncaster Rovers with a 3pm kick-off.
It’s the last of seven games the Gills have to play and most of their opponents still have their own hopes of promotion.
The first legs of the League 2 play-off semi-finals will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6. The seventh-placed side hosts fourth in a 3pm kick-off off and sixth plays fifth at 5.30pm.
The second legs are scheduled later that same week with 4th vs 7th on Thursday, May 9 and 5th vs 6th on Friday, May 10, both 8pm kick-offs.
These dates and kick-off times have been confirmed by the EFL but are still subject to confirmation by local authorities once teams are known, with regards to policing etc.
Winners of the two-legged semi-finals will then be set for a Wembley final on Sunday, May 19, with a kick-off time yet to be determined.
League 2 table
The Gills were last involved in a play-off campaign during the 2008/09 season in League 2 when Mark Stimson’s side beat Rochdale 2-1 over two legs in the semi-finals before beating Shrewsbury Town in front of 53,706 fans thanks to Simeon Jackson’s late winner.
Gillingham will hope for a result this weekend at Morecambe to ensure their hopes of a play-off chance this season don’t diminish any further.
