Brighton teens with fake IDs could be banned from pubs once they're 18 - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

Brighton and Hove Police have issued a warning to people about underage drinking and the potential punishments after noticing a spike in the number of people using fake IDs.

The force has said that fraudulent IDs can be seized and retained by police, and that any passports being used by people other than the passport holder can also be seized and returned to the passport office.

Brighton and Hove Police said: “Don’t be tempted to use fake ID.

“Under-age drinking is a serious concern.

“We work closely with the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) False ID Scheme and you will be reported to BCRP if caught.

“You risk being banned from entering licensed premises for 12 months from your 18th birthday.”

Parents have also been encouraged to make sure they know where their children are at the weekends and to talk to them about underage drinking.

A spokesman for the police force said: “We are continuing to see underage drinking at the weekends, a rise in young people using fake IDs to try to enter licensed premises and a rise in children under 16 being out and about late at night unsupervised.

“We love seeing and engaging with young people when they’re out, but we want them to make the most of our fantastic city safe and sober.

“Please talk to your children about alcohol, the law, the physical and social effects of drinking and the dangers it can present.”
