In the list from The Week magazine, Squisito, which can be found inside The Needlemakers building, was featured.

The restaurant is co-owned by Harry Fields and Chris Chater who create “unauthentically Italian” cuisine.

The full list of the best places to eat in the UK for 2024 can be found on The Week website here.

What did The Week magazine say about Squisito?

The Week cites a review of Squisito from Daily Mail writer Tom Parker-Bowles who described it as an “utterly charming family-run restaurant, which offers unfussy Italian food at “eminently reasonable” prices.”

Following that the write-up says: “Our lunch begins with “plumply fatty home-made Italian sausage, gently spiced”, and arancini filled with ‘nduja and “oozing mozzarella”.

“There’s “pert fresh linguine” slicked in “rich” carbonara, and exquisitely light gnocchi bathed in a “gently ovine” lamb ragù.

“Squisito is “the sort of neighbourhood restaurant that we all wish we had” – and a place where you’ll definitely want to linger. It describes itself as “unauthentically Italian” – “but really, it’s just authentically good”.”

Squisito has also been well-received by diners on Tripadvisor, earning a 5/5 score from 27 reviews.

One reviewer wrote: “Booked in advance. Such a relaxed atmosphere and the service was excellent.

“Friendly and attentive dining experience. Love the open kitchen!! I virtually watched my pasta being made.

“Such lovely food🥰 we had 3 courses and each one was fabulous. Definitely worth a return visit.”

Another posted: “Went for lunch with friends and had a lovely lunch of pasta with Roast cauliflower, chilli & almond oil. Delicious sides and focciacia. Staff were attentive and recommended a lovely Puglian white wine. Would go back.”

Meanwhile, another shared: “Lovely scrambled eggs and Tuscan beans cooked by Chris, great coffee and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend if you’re in Lewes. We will be back.”
