The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust has said they are “very busy” and that relatives should collect loved ones from hospital “as soon as they are ready to be discharged”.
A statement by the trust, which runs the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and The Princess Royal in Haywards Heath, said: “To help relieve pressure on our hospitals this week, staff are working hard to get people home quickly and safely when they are ready.

“If you have a family member or loved one to leave hospital, please speak to ward staff about how you can help.”
Over the weekend, the trust also urged people to “use services wisely” after having an influx of patients across the county.
People are reminded to only use A&E services when they are in a “life-threatening” condition.
