Riders from Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats rode around Brighton are calling for a higher delivery fee from the companies.
The walkout is taking place between 5pm and 10pm this evening.
Riders congregated outside McDonald’s stores in Western Road and London Road this evening as part of the strike.
A police presence was put in place as scores of riders beeped their horns and rode in unison across the city.
A Deliveroo spokeswoman said: “We offer riders the self employed, flexible work they tell us they value, alongside protections. Riders always earn at least the national minimum wage, plus vehicle costs, for the time they are working with us, though the vast majority earn far more than this.
“Riders are also automatically insured for free, covering them if they are in an accident or injured while working and receive income protection if they are unwell and cannot work.”
More than 3,000 drivers are expected to stop delivering nationally during the strike.
Uber Eats and Just Eat were also approached for comment.
Sussex Police were also approached for comment.
