The top 25 designs will be painted onto helmets and exhibited at Worthing Town Hall.

They will then be sold at auction with the proceeds given to The Fire Fighters Charity.

The initiative comes from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS).

All the helmets will have been worn by firefighters at past incidents. They include WSFRS assistant chief fire officer Peter Rickard’s old fire helmet from his time with London Fire Brigade.

He wore the helmet at the Croydon tram derailment in 2016 and the 2017 London Bridge attack.

Mark Andrews, WSFRS deputy chief fire officer, said: “Not only is this a great opportunity to have your work showcased and exhibited but in doing so you will be helping to raise money for a brilliant cause that helps firefighters and their families to live healthier and happier.”
