A major coffeehouse chain is closing one of its high street branches this week.
Costa Coffee in King Street, Maidstone town centre will shut this Saturday.
The store located opposite Starbucks, announced the news through a note displayed on it’s doors.
It read: “It is deepest regret that we have to inform all of our loyal customers that this store is closing.”
“We have thoroughly enjoyed serving you all, team King Street.”
The reason for the unexpected closure is not known.
The note on the store says it will shut Friday, but a Costa spokesperson confirmed trade will cease Saturday.
Until then, the coffeehouse will operate on shorter hours, and close earlier than 6pm.
A Costa spokesperson said: “The Costa Coffee store on King Street, Maidstone will close its doors for trade on the 20th of January 2024.
“Our talented team from the store will be re-deployed to nearby Costa Coffee’s in the local area.
Customers can continue to enjoy their favourite Costa coffee at our nearest store on Fremlin Walk, Maidstone, or to find your nearest store, click here.”
The news follows a series of shop closures across Maidstone town centre.
This month, retailer Sports Direct announced it was closing it’s branch in The Mall.
The store will move into House of Fraser in Fremlin Walk, which is set to close for six months in March as it undergoes a major refit.
At the end of last year, customers were shocked after Zara unexpectedly shut its store in Maidstone.
The closest Zara branch is now in Bluewater shopping centre in Greenhithe.
