Some 4,300 people across Brighton and Hove took the bus on Christmas Day as services kept families connected over the long weekend.
Routes 1, 1A, 5B, 7, 12 and 49 were running throughout the day with drivers volunteering to work the shifts. A spokesman for the bus company said there were “far more volunteers than shifts available”.
It was the second year services have run on Christmas day with a 46 per cent increase in passengers in 2023 – from 3,000 in 2022.
The 12 route was added to the Christmas roster this year with 600 passengers using it throughout the day.
Brighton and Hove Buses commercial director Nick Hill said: “We’re thrilled to be able to run Christmas Day services again this year and to see even more people using them.
“We’re committed to keeping everyone connected all year round and making it easier for passengers to get where they need to be at Christmas.”
